{"id":4846,"date":"2019-12-12T10:39:58","date_gmt":"2019-12-12T10:39:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cms.ja-africa.org\/?p=4846"},"modified":"2019-12-12T10:39:58","modified_gmt":"2019-12-12T10:39:58","slug":"zambias-active-innovators-awarded-delta-air-lines-social-impact-award-at-2019-ja-africa-company-of-the-year-finals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cms.ja-africa.org\/backend\/zambias-active-innovators-awarded-delta-air-lines-social-impact-award-at-2019-ja-africa-company-of-the-year-finals\/","title":{"rendered":"Zambia Wins Delta Air Lines Award at 2019 COY"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Accra, Ghana &#8211; December 12th, 2019<\/strong>: Junior Achievement (JA) Africa is pleased to announce Active\nInnovators from Zambia has won the Delta Air\nLines Social Impact Award at the 2019 Company of the Year finals. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The competition, hosted for the second successive year in\nGhana, brought together 44 young entrepreneurs from Botswana, Eswatini,\nGabon,\nGhana, Kenya, Mauritius, Nigeria, South Africa, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe. Also\nin attendance were government officials, senior business executives and JA Board\nMembers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Over the past year, students from each country created and ran businesses under the JA Company Program, JA\u2019s flagship entrepreneurship education program for secondary school students. The students had all won their respective national competitions to qualify for the regional final.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\nSocial Impact Award, which recognizes values-driven corporate social\nresponsibility and impact was sponsored by Delta Air Lines, a global aviation\nleader that serves more than 180 million customers each year. Delta is a\nthree-time supporter of the COY competition. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Active\nInnovators received a trophy, digital cameras and Delta-branded promotional\ngifts as their prize. The company produces a range of household kitchen items\nmade from recycled materials such as plastic bottles and bottle tops. They\ndonated part of their profits as well as some of their products to the Home\nManagement and Hospitality Department in their school, and to a nearby\ncommunity school to ensure the students have clean facilities every day. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Shane\nSpyak, Delta\u2019s Vice President Europe, Middle East, Africa, and India (EMEAI)\nsaid, \u201cAt Delta, we\u2019re committed to helping the communities where we live and\nwork. I was very impressed by Active Innovators\u2019 vision and innovative thinking\nto improve not only their school environment but also help other young people\nfrom less fortunate backgrounds.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>CEO of\nJA Africa, Elizabeth Bintliff added, \u201cEvery year, the level of competition gets\nbetter. Every year, we challenge our students and they rise to the occasion\neach time. We are grateful to Delta Air Lines for recognizing Active Innovators\nfor their social impact.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Elvis\nNgosa, CEO of Active Innovators said \u201cwe are honored to be recognized by Delta\nAir Lines for our corporate responsibility.\u201d He concluded by expressing\nappreciation to JA and Delta Air Lines for giving students across Africa the\nopportunity to build their entrepreneurship and work readiness skills from such\na young age. \u201cThank you for investing in our future,\u201d Elvis Ngosa said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Entrepreneurship\neducation is a critical pathway to solve the growing youth employment challenge\nin Africa and JA\u2019s mission is to bridge this gap.
