In 2015, more than 80,000 volunteers worked alongside community partners at service projects in 487 cities across 93 countries in the days leading up to and including Global Community Day. The annual activities focus on a range of local needs \u2013 from urban revitalization to environmental conservation to literacy and education. Global Community Day is one of the many ways Citi shows its commitment to the communities where they have a presence year round.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>On Saturday June 10, 2017, Citi JA member nations and other community partners joined in celebrating Citi\u2019s 12<sup>th<\/sup> annual Global Community Day.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2564 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/cms.ja-africa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/2017-06-10-PHOTO-00000676-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In valuing this big day, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jatanzania.org\/\">JA Tanzania<\/a> joined Citi Bank Tanzania to commemorate the day. The team went to Mbuyuni Primary School -a school for children with special needs and Autism. The team cleaned the school area, donated cleaning materials and had lunch with the children.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jagabon.org\/\">JA Gabon<\/a> in collaboration with Citi Global and Sobraga, donors of the Company program and JA Our Community, organized an event at the beach to raise awareness of environmental problems for young people of the L\u00e9on Mba National High School. The aim was to have a positive impact on the essence of environmental conservation with a view to bringing the youth into compliance with environmental rules. There were also educational games and activities on environmental protection to sensitize children about the environmental challenges faced in Gabon. For instance, there were games where kids learned about the life cycle of turtles and threats faced throughout their span. Fifty volunteers and 600 students were present.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-2555\" src=\"https:\/\/cms.ja-africa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/Citi-4-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2556 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/cms.ja-africa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/Citi-5-300x177.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"177\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Workers and staff of Citi Senegal and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasenegal.org\/\">JA Senegal<\/a> chose to celebrate the Global Community Day by volunteering in the communities.\u00a0This year, the pediatrician hospital Albert Royer in Senegal was the place of honor. Donations of medical equipment were made to contribute to the improvement of the medical services provided to the children. The team also served food to the community, a highly appreciated act of generosity especially during the period of Ramadan.\u00a0 It was a highly inspiring moment which empowered the students to continue to do good in their societies.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2557 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/cms.ja-africa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/Citi-6-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Junior Achiev<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2558 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/cms.ja-africa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/Citi-7-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/>ement Senegal Executive Director, Mrs. Fatou Samb Niang accompanied by 10 volunteers appreciated the opportunity Citi gave them to interact with children and \u00a0Citi volunteers.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>At <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ja-nigeria.org\/\">JA Nigeria<\/a>, volunteers led sporting activities, financial literacy and entrepreneurship workshops, and donated school supplies. The Executive Director, Simi Nwogugu spoke on a panel focused on financial literacy. \u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2559 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/cms.ja-africa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/Citi-8-300x298.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"298\" \/><\/p>\n<p>For almost thirty years, both Citi and Citi Foundation have partnered with Junior Achievement (JA) across the world to fund programs that improve the financial literacy and entrepreneurship skills of young people. Citi Foundation supports the implementation of the JA Company Program, a school-based entrepreneurship education curriculum in Gabon, Kenya, Nigeria, Senegal, South Africa and Zambia and the out of school youth program in Tanzania and Uganda.<\/p>\n<p>At JA Africa, we\u2019ve begun inspiring the next generation of youth to develop a habit of giving back through our programs.
