Vacancy: Legal Intern (Lagos Intern)

Role Summary 

The Legal Intern will provide administrative and legal support to the General Counsel/Head of Risk and Compliance at Junior Achievement Africa. This role offers hands-on exposure to corporate legal operations, compliance, risk management, and governance within a pan-African non-profit organisation. The Intern will assist with legal research, documentation, compliance monitoring, and general legal processes to ensure organisational operations align with applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies. 

This position is ideal for a lawyer with two to three years of experience seeking to deepen their experience in legal drafting, contract review, corporate governance, and risk functions within the development and education sector. 

Key Responsibilities 

Legal Support 

● Assist in conducting legal research on corporate, regulatory, labour, and compliance-related issues. 

● Support in drafting, reviewing, and proofreading legal documents, including contracts, MoUs, NDAs, policies, and internal memos. 

● Maintain and organise legal files, databases, and document repositories.

● Maintain schedules for contract renewals, etc 

Compliance & Risk Management 

● Support the monitoring of compliance with organisational policies, donor requirements, and applicable regulations across operational countries.

● Assist in tracking and updating compliance checklists and risk registers.

● Support internal audits and compliance reviews as required.

Governance Support 

● Provide support in preparing documentation for Board and Committee meetings. 

● Assist in reviewing governance documents such as charters, policies, and frameworks. 

● Support the implementation and tracking of governance action points.

Administrative Support 

● Schedule meetings, take minutes, and support coordination with internal stakeholders. 

● Assist in preparing reports and presentations for the Legal & Risk function.

● Perform general administrative duties as assigned by the General Counsel and Head of Risk. 

Qualifications & Requirements 

● Two to three years post-qualification experience 

● Basic knowledge of corporate law, compliance, and governance principles.

● Strong research and legal writing skills. 

● Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

● Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills. 

● Ability to handle confidential information with discretion. 

● Strong communication and interpersonal skills. 

Desirable Skills 

● Interest in non-profit, development, or education sectors. 

● Familiarity with risk management concepts. 

● Basic understanding of international legal and compliance frameworks.

Reporting Line
