Empowering Futures: Social Equity Program Launches Third Year of Impact Across Africa

As the JA Africa–Z Zurich Foundation Social Equity Program (SEP) enters its third year, the initiative is making significant strides across the continent. With a mission to equip youth with essential skills in digital literacy, entrepreneurship, leadership, mental wellbeing, and job readiness, SEP is transforming communities and shaping futures.

Sierra Leone: A Promising Start in Bo

The program’s launch in Bo, Sierra Leone, marks a significant milestone. In collaboration with the Center for Advocacy and Sustainable Empowerment Sierra Leone (CASE-SL), SEP aims to empower 3,000 youth, fostering confidence and real-world problem-solving abilities in Sierra Leone. Participants have already begun to share inspiring reflections on their transformative experiences.

Uganda: Scaling Impact Nationwide

In Uganda, SEP has kicked off with a robust Training of Trainers session, engaging over 70 trainers at the National ICT Innovation Hub. This initiative, in collaboration with JA Uganda and our implementing partner, Implicit Effect, is part of a broader goal to impact 25,000 young Ugandans this year, building on the success of previous years.

The program continues to focus on entrepreneurship, financial literacy, and work readiness, paving the way for a generation of self-reliant, innovative leaders.

Tanzania: Overcoming Challenges, Building Confidence

Now in its second year, SEP in Tanzania, set to empower 15,000 marginalized youth, has expanded its reach through extensive outreach to colleges under NACTVET and various NGOs. Despite challenges like digital literacy and limited internet access, the program has successfully conducted boot camps in Arusha, providing new instructors with valuable field experience.

Our implementation partners in Tanzania, E3Empower Africa and Tanzania Bora Initiative, have been instrumental to the program’s success. Participants like Jackline, a 20-year-old student at Habari Maalum, have reported increased self-awareness, empathy, and confidence, recognizing the critical role of business in community building.

Looking Ahead: Liberia Joins the Movement

Liberia is set to join the SEP initiative soon, marking its entry as one of the two new countries in the program’s final phase. This expansion underscores the program’s commitment to reaching more youth across Africa, providing them with the tools to build brighter futures and stronger communities.

As SEP continues to unfold across the continent, the stories of transformation and empowerment serve as a testament to the program’s impact. Stay tuned for more updates and success stories as we journey through this final lap of the Social Equity Program.
