527 Students in Two Weeks: JA DEEP Brings Digital Entrepreneurship Into Rwandan Classrooms

JA Rwanda has reached 527 students in just two weeks as it rolls out the JA Digital Entrepreneurship Education Platform (JA DEEP) in schools across the country. The program helps students build the digital, entrepreneurial, and employability skills they need to succeed in school and beyond.

During each session, students explore the platform’s learning modules and put new skills into practice. For David Nshuti, JA DEEP Lead, the biggest win has been watching their confidence grow.

“It’s been really encouraging to see how engaged they are,” Nshuti said. “We’ve seen students getting more comfortable with the platform, asking questions, and actively participating in the different modules. That’s what JA DEEP is about: giving young people the opportunity to learn, explore, and build skills that they can actually use.”

Nshuti also credited teachers and the JA Rwanda team for helping every student follow along and get the most out of the experience.

At ES Juru TSS, a technical secondary school, teachers see JA DEEP as a natural fit for their curriculum. Students there train in trades such as electricity, computer systems, and construction, and the platform links that technical training to today’s digital economy.

“JA DEEP fits very well with what we teach because it introduces students to technology, online work, and digital services, while also encouraging them to conduct research related to what they are studying,” said Elias Mutarambirwa, a teacher at ES Juru TSS. “We are grateful that JA Rwanda came to support us in helping students prepare for the future with the knowledge and skills they need to enter the labor market.”

For students, JA DEEP builds on their experience running student-led companies through Junior Achievement.

“Being part of JA has helped us build our confidence and become critical thinkers,” said Umutoniwase Kevine, a student at ES Juru TSS. “Through creating groups that operate like companies, we are developing skills that can help us become employers in the future. JA DEEP is helping us make our companies stronger, including our English and public speaking abilities, while also providing certificates that will be useful even after school.”

As the rollout continues, JA Rwanda is working alongside teachers and schools to connect digital learning, entrepreneurship, and practical skills, so young people leave the classroom ready for the opportunities ahead.
